Donald Trump has been party to over 4000 lawsuits, involving every area of his business empire. Since becoming President, he has been sued over 130 times.

도널드 트럼프가 관여된 소송은 4천 건 이상으로 사업 전 분야에 걸쳐 제기되었다. 대통령 당선 후 제기된 소송은 130건이다.

 

By the early 1990s, The Trump Organization was facing over $3 billion of debt. The Taj Mahal, Trump Castle, and Trump Plaza and Casion all went bankrupt.

90년대 초반, 트럼프 그룹의 부채는 30억 달러에 달했다. 타지마할(애틀랜틱시티), 트럼프 캐슬, 트럼프 플라자와 카지노는 모두 파산했다.

 

Donald Trump's name is on 17 buildings in New York City. He owns only 5 of them outright.

뉴욕시에서 트럼프의 이름이 새겨진 건물은 17개다. 그중 트럼프 소유는 5개다.

A key change in the Trump Organization's business model starts sort of accidentally in the late 1990s. The business starts turning international. One of the people who worked for Trump was visiting South Korea. He's meeting with some Korean businesspeople. They mention they're building buildings. He says, "What are you calling those buildings?" They said, "They don't have a name." He said, "How about you call them the Trump Buildings?" The businesspeople liked that idea. Trump was a famous name in Korea. "Yeah, sure."

트럼프 그룹의 사업 모델은 90년대 후반에 우연히 바뀌게 됐어요. 사업을 해외로 진출시킨 거죠. 트럼프의 직원이 한국을 방문 중이어서 트럼프도 한국 사업가와 만날 기회가 있었는데 마침 건물을 짓고 있었나봐요. 그래서 이름이 뭐냐고 물었는데 이름이 아직 없었죠. 그래서 '트럼프 빌딩'을 제안한 거예요. 그쪽에서는 좋아했고요. 트럼프가 한국에서 유명했나 보죠.

 

That turned out to solve a lot of problems for Donald Trump and the Trump Organization. Certainly by the 2000s, no major bank is gonna lend him any money. He defaulted so many times, declared bankruptcy so many times. And you can't be a real estate developer if you can't borrow money. And this licensing deal solved that problem "bigly."

그런데 그 일로 트럼프와 트럼프 그룹이 기사회생 한거예요. 2000년대가 되어서 트럼프에게 돈을 빌려줄 은행은 없었어요. 채무 불이행과 파산을 밥 먹듯이 했거든요. 그런데 돈을 못 빌리면 부동산 사업은 못해요. 그런 문제를 이 라이센싱 거래 하나로 해결해버린 거죠.

Trump has had a business interest in over 113 companies across 20 countries, including : United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Philippines, Qatar, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan. 

그가 관심 둔 140여 개 기업은 아랍에미리트, 터키, 필리핀, 카타르, 이스라엘, 사우디아라비아, 아제르바이잔 등 25개 국적이다.

I don't settle cases.
저는 합의 안 합니다.

I don't do it because that's why I don't get sued often.
합의를 안 하니까 고소를 자주 안 당해요.

What happened in this case is that the defendant in the lawsuit was elected president of the United States. That doesn't happen every day. 

- We just learned that Donald Trump has agreed to settle the lawsuits related to Trump University. It's for $25 million dollars.

I think Donald Trump was absolutely correct when he tweeted that that's a small fraction of the exposure he could have faced had he lost at trial.

이 사건의 경우 소송의 피고인이 미국의 대통령으로 당선되었어요. 흔한 일은 아니죠.

- 도널드 트럼프가 트럼프 대학 관련 소송에 2,500만 달러에 합의했습니다.

트럼프가 패소했을 경우 감당해야 할 손해에 비해 아주 적은 돈만 지불했다는 트윗에 전적으로 동의합니다.

 

Trump University took in close to $50 million in tuition. Under the RICO statute, the damages are tripled. So if the case goes to trial, he's pushing $200 million in exposure.

트럼프 대학교는 수강료로 약 5천만 달러를 받았어요. 부패 및 조직범죄 처벌법으로 손해 배상은 3배가 되죠. 만약 재판에 갔다면 2억 달러까지 생각해야 해요.

 

The World doesn't change
without people standing up to people like Trump.

저런 사람에게 맞서지 않으면 세상은 바뀌지 않아요.
